Yangjiang famous kite " Ganoderma" was selected as one of the top 10 kites in the world. It is oval with a white cloud above and a lively deer below. Deer keeps running with ganoderma lucidum in its mouth. The top of the kites coated with oil with a thin bamboo strip and connected to overall support. So it can make a pleasant sound in the wind and you can hear it from miles away. It takes one year to prepare bamboo for making kites, so the collection value of traditional handmade kites is very high. The making process of the kite is also very meticulous and can be divided into 4 steps: cutting the bamboo, assembling the kite, applying the paste and painting, and adjusting for flight.
Yangjiang kites has a long history of more than 1400 years, recording the changes of times and local customs of Moyang River. It is also one of the first batch of intangible cultural heritages at the provincial level in Guangdong. In the ancient Spring and Autumn Period, the inventor Lu Ban made a wooden kite in Weifang to obtain military information. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the southern leader, Mrs Xian, fought fiercely with the rebels in Yangjiang. She used kites to transmit military information. Therefore, kites were introduced into Yangjiang which is located on the ancient post road in the southern Guangdong and is also the key point of the Maritime Silk Road. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the southern Maritime Silk Road was in its most prosperous period. Yangjiang kites manufacturing technology has also made rapid progress.
In 1991, Yangjiang built China's first kite flying field-the South Kite Arena, it can accommodate 300,000 people at the same time with total area of 120,000m². It is open to the public free of charge 24 hours a day, providing a place for citizens to rest, visit and enjoy. In 1992, Yangjiang Government began to hold international kite competitions. Athletes from all over the world fly kites with local enthusiasts, which is a good time for the citizens to adjust their pace of life and show their competitive talents.
Yangjiang has a tropical monsoon climate with strong autumn winds and vast fields. There is a strong farming culture here.
